9 December 2011 – While the final month of the year has only just begun, small and medium business (SMB) owners have been busy advertising their goods and services online since the middle of November, and will continue to be busy until the first week of January.

In 2010 the upward spike in Internet marketing activity started as early as the last week of November, went past its climax in the middle of December, and went on for about a few days after the first week of January. In essence the marketing buzz carried on to about February and spiked again slightly for Valentine’s Day, but the holiday marketing buzz that included Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year went from the last week of November up to the first week of the next year.

Experts went ahead and advanced their marketing preparations and keyword bids for paid marketing one week this year, and as early as the second week of November some online retailers were already noting increases in sales and effective strategies. November has come and gone and we’re entering the thick of the online consumer spending buzz, and every online business owner wants a piece of the action.

Many SMB owners have already setup their businesses for the most ideal marketing strategies to take advantage of the season and partake in an expected $36 billion income just for the last 7 weeks of the year. The last two months of 2011 makes up more than a third of the expected online consumer spending for the entire year that is soon coming to a close. In light of this expected level of spending, SMB owners, marketing firms, and paid search marketing providers are also trying to up the ante of their services.

This includes delving into social media marketing like never before, as well as taking advantage of a growing mobile Web user network. Google estimated that a significant chunk of last minute online shoppers would get info or order directly through their mobile gadgets, so for any online business, the second week of December is cramming tome for mobile strategies.
