It’s really hard to run a company. The employer needs to keep his employees happy and satisfied all the time, otherwise their productivity will decrease drastically and slowly, but surely. Thus, the business will become unsuccessful.

Overtime, business owners have tried very hard to make the professional lives of their employees much easier, but at the same time they needed to keep track of their performance and level of implication. The last part might have led to some innovations that seemed to bring some headaches to the workforce. Here are 7 of them:

1.The online time tracking system

For the employer, this is the ultimate form of supervising and monitoring the activity of his employees. For them, the workforce, it is double trouble, as some might call it. Not only that they need to perform their activities at a faster pace, but imagine the pressure they are under. Spending too much time on a task might give the impression that they are having difficulties, while spending too little time could look like they are in a hurry, thus unprofessional.

2.The employee of the month

Announcing The Employee of the Month means that only one employee gets to win and that all others lose. The recognition should be for everyone, not for only one person. An employer should know that even though it seems stupid, such recognition will hurt other employees’ feelings.

3.The “Optional” Social events

One thing every employer should remember? Regardless of the place where the social event happens, every time the employees are together with other people they work, it’s just like they are at work. Keep in mind that some people do not want to socialize outside work, so if you as an employer make it look like they should attend, hoping that they will have a great time, you will create the exact opposite.

4.Self-evaluations

They are a waste of time. At least this is what great employees believe. They also believe that you, the employer, should know if they did a great job or not. Another thing? Poor employees are not going to rate themselves as poor and, as a result, you will spend all your session talking about the differences you have regarding their performance.

5.Assigning parking spots

Besides health reasons, no employee should be more entitled than another one to park closer to the front door of the office. These assignments are usually made on general criteria, so if you feel that every employee counts, consider removing them as soon as possible.

6.Training programs filled with monologs

If you decided to train your employees, that’s great! However, if you are planning to talk through the entire training, they will lose focus and get bored fast. Try to engage your workforce and design activities that feature something else, other than lecturing.

7.Training programs with “one-size-fits-all” type of approach

Another thing you should consider when implementing a training program is that every employee is different and that they all learn in different ways. Some are visual learners, others verbal learners, while others are individuallearners. Get to know them and adjust your program to their characteristics.
