How to Use Video in Twitter Ads

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a million. Perhaps this is why video is one of the fastest-growing forms of media for small business owners. Using video, business owners can promote their products or services – all with minimal investment. While you can always upload your promotional videos to YouTube, the social media network Twitter also supports video ads.

Twitter has long been associated with short text-based messages of 140 characters of less. But the social media network has since expanded its platform to support video. And now Twitter even supports video advertisements, allowing business owners of all shapes and sizes to display promotional videos in their tweets.

Before you can advertise videos on Twitter, you’ll first need to choose content for your video. There are dozens of different forms of commercial video ad content. For instance, you could create a tutorial video showing how your business’s product works. Another idea is to create a “teaser” video with the goal of enticing prospects customers into seeking more information about your product. These are just a few ideas to consider when producing a commercial video for Twitter Ads.

How Video Ads in Twitter Work

As explained in this article, Twitter supports Promoted Videos, which allows business owners to create videos that automatically play as users scroll through their timelines. It’s a highly effective, and cost-effective, way to encourage greater interaction with your audience.

When you are ready to get started, you’ll need to visit Twitter Ads and choose the Creatives tab. From here, select Videos, at which point you can upload your video to the advertiser dashboard.

Here are some recommended video specifications for Twitter Ads:

  • MP4 or MOV file format
  • File size no greater than 1GB
  • Video length no longer than 10 minutes
  • 264, baseline, Main or High profile with a 4:2:0 color space codec
  • AAC LC, stereo audio codecs
  • Minimum 30 frames per second (FPS)
  • 6,000k+ bitrate for 1080p,

After uploading your video to Twitter, select the “Create a new campaign” button, followed by “Video views.” You can then specify a name for your campaign, budget and other elements. Once your video ad has been approved, it will go live. Of course, you should keep a close eye on your campaign in the days and weeks to come, checking to make sure it yields a positive return on your investment.

In addition to standard videos, Twitter Ads also supports GIFs and Vine videos.
