Prices for Sprint service may hike in the coming quarter

You wireless carrier may not entertain insistent bargains anymore.

Marcelo Claure, CEO of Sprint said that the prices will be hiked by the company in the next quarter. The plans that would be hiked was not specified by Claure while a spokesperson didn’t respond immediately to a request for remark.

All the carriers are making the same move since the industry settled down from the last year of strong promotions, which saw more freebies and lower prices for services like HBO or Netflix. This means that it will be hard for consumers to search for better offers from the carriers, or you may have to go for prepaid providers like Virgin Mobile or Cricket Wireless or cheaper plans from wireless resellers such as Straight Talk.

Speaking for the first time in public since Sprint and T-Mobile halted merger discussion, Claure said that this year there weren’t more promotions about the iPhone X because of lesser inventory, and it made no sense to provide discounts on a sold out phone. There were pretty aggressive discounts last year along with the ability to exchange an old iPhone for a standard model for free. $300 are being offered by some of the carriers in exchange for your old phone.

Still, Claure stated that he looks forward to the fourth quarter to be strong as the demand for iPhone X is massive. Sprint Customer Support can brief about the more upcomming offers

The T-Mobile discussion was also touched upon by Claure, stating again that the merger halted because Masayoshi Son, CEO of Sprint parent Softbank, didn’t want to lose control. The offered merger would have made T-Mobile management team and parent Deutsche Telekom in charge of the united carrier.

Claure said, with Sprint concentrated on operating as a self-governing entity again, the priority is to put Sprint’s means of spectrum assets to use and upgrade the network. Son formerly stated the organization would spend around $5 to $6 billion per year for the next few years in order to upgrade its network. Claure continued that he believed the estimate to be low and that he would put even more money in order to accelerate the network deployment.
