Elon Musk’s “Vegas Loop” Approved to Move Forward

Last month, the Boring Company, owned by Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, gained approval to expand its autonomous transport system in Las Vegas.

They’re calling the endeavor “The Vegas Loop.” A network of tunnels in Sin City that will allow self-driving Tesla cars to transport people at high speeds.

In fact, the Boring Company claims that the Loop will be able to carry people from the Las Vegas Convention Center to Resorts World in only 2 minutes!

The Clark County Commission has now given Musk’s company approval “to move forward with constructing the resort’s passenger station and tunnel.” Construction ended on the first of two tunnels in February, and in May, Boring finished excavating the second. But the company may now begin work on the above-ground passenger stations at either end of the tunnel. Boring will also build a third station in the middle of the loop.

“We are thrilled to receive approval from the County Commission to move forward with our proposed passenger station and tunnel and are eager to take the next steps in creating an innovative transportation solution for our convention guests and visitors,” Scott Sibella, President of Resorts World Las Vegas, said in a statement.

Lightning Speed

According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the self-driving Teslas will shuttle up to 4,400 passengers per hour, at speeds up to 155 mph! And in addition to the driver tunnels (some 40 feet below ground), a pedestrian tunnel will also open, allowing walkers to take the 15-minute trip across the convention space on foot.

And Las Vegas isn’t the only city getting the Boring treatment. Musk’s company is currently at work in five other cities, where Boring Company projects have either been proposed, approved, or initiated.
