Aiper Faces $411K Suit Over Texas House Fire Tied to Pool Cleaner

HARLINGEN, Texas - Allstate Vehicle and Property Insurance Company has sued Aiper Intelligent, LLC and its Chinese parent, Shenzhen Aiper Intelligent Co., Ltd., after alleging a defective robotic pool cleaner sparked a fire that destroyed a client’s home - on the very first time it was plugged in.

The lawsuit, filed June 30 in Cameron County District Court, seeks to recover $411,481.36 that Allstate paid to its policyholders, Carla and David Crenshaw. The case represents a growing wave of subrogation claims, where insurers step into the legal shoes of their customers, targeting Chinese manufacturers over alleged product defects.

“A Textbook Example” of Cross-Border Liability

“This case is a textbook example of how a seemingly minor consumer product can lead to catastrophic losses,” said a legal expert familiar with such filings. The July 2023 blaze at the Crenshaws’ Tangerine Drive home caused “extensive destruction,” with investigators tracing the origin to the newly unboxed Aiper Seagull Pro cordless pool vacuum.

Allstate is seeking financial relief of up to $1 million, including reimbursement of the insurance payout, interest, and court costs. The lawsuit argues that Texas courts have jurisdiction because Aiper “purposefully availed itself” of the state market by selling through national retailers and targeted advertising, invoking the Texas long-arm statute.
