The 12 Days of Christmas Promo Plan - Christmas Marketing Campaign Ideas That Don’t Burn You Out

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Okay, friend, confession time… this is MY year of getting my marketing ish together!

Here’s the thing about me. I am GREAT at content marketing. Give me a blog post, a Pinterest strategy, or a newsletter and I’m off to the races. But actually selling my products and courses? Asking for the sale? Running a real promotion with a beginning, a middle, and an end? Ummm… that’s where I tend to wander off and organize my craft supplies instead. (Don’t judge me. You’ve done it too!)

The 12 Days of Christmas Promo Plan - Christmas Marketing Campaign Ideas That Don’t Burn You Out

So this year, we’re doing it together. We’re locking arms, getting our marketing plans in order EARLY, and making the dollars, dollars, dollars! 💰

And there’s no better place to start than Christmas, because Christmas marketing is SOOOO effective… and it comes at the exact WRONG time of year to be easy!

Think about what December looks like at your house. At mine, there are three kids, two grands, the old dears, decorating, baking, wrapping, shopping, and all the things that go along with the holiday season. Who in their right mind wants to be writing promo emails on December 18th while the cookies burn and someone’s asking where the tape went? (Nobody. The answer is nobody.)

THIS is exactly why planning two months ahead is the most brilliant Christmas marketing strategy EVER. Instead of running around all stressed out in December, you get to sip your pumpkin spice latte and get your marketing plans in order while there are still leaves on the trees. ðŸ‚☕

Then when December gets here, your promos run like a little elf-powered machine while you’re off making memories. That’s the dream, right?

So grab your PSL, and let’s plan your 12 Days of Christmas.

Why We’re Talking About Christmas in October

Pinterest needs about 45 to 60 days to pick up seasonal pins and start showing them, so pins you make in late October are perfectly timed for December searches. Shoppers are already saving gift ideas and making lists weeks before the holiday. Planning now gives you time to map out your offers, make your graphics, write your emails, and order supplies, with zero night-before panic.

The Event Breakdown: What Are the 12 Days of Christmas Marketing?

What it is

A 12 Days of Christmas campaign is a series of twelve daily promotions, surprises, or posts that run back-to-back during the holiday season. Each day brings something new… a gift guide, a bundle, a freebie, a flash sale, a peek behind the scenes. Your customers start checking your emails and feed every day to see what’s next!

When to run it: The Final Dozen (December 13–24)

The traditional 12 Days of Christmas actually START on Christmas Day and run into January. But for marketing, the sweet spot is the final dozen days before Christmas: December 13 through December 24.

Here’s why I love this timing:

  • It catches the last-minute rush. This is when the procrastinators wake up and realize Christmas is NEXT WEEK. (Hi, it’s me, I’m the procrastinators!)
  • It includes Green Monday on December 14, one of the biggest online shopping days of the season. (Catch up on last week’s post, Green Monday Is Your Secret Sales Day, if you missed it!)
  • It ends on Christmas Eve, right when people are desperate for gift cards and instant downloads.

Ship physical products? I’ve built shipping cutoffs right into the plan below, so don’t worry.

Why it works for marketing

It gives people a reason to come back. One big sale gets one look. Twelve days of surprises gets twelve looks, and every one is another chance to open an email, see a post, or save a pin.

It turns one overwhelming campaign into 12 small, doable pieces. Twelve little things are SO much easier to plan than one giant thing.

It doesn’t mean 12 discounts. This is the BIG mindset shift. In my plan, only ONE day is a real sale. The rest are gift guides, bundles, freebies, stories, and thank-yous. You protect your profits AND your customers don’t get trained to wait for a coupon.

The Don’t Be Weird Guide

✅ DO mix value days with sales days. Give before you ask: tips, freebies, behind-the-scenes peeks, and gratitude.

✅ DO offer an opt-out. The holidays are hard for a lot of people. A simple “want to skip holiday emails this year? Click here and we’ll see you in January” earns serious trust (and keeps your unsubscribe rate down).

✅ DO know your audience’s wording. If your customers celebrate a mix of holidays, “holiday season” is warm and welcoming. If your audience is all-in on Christmas, go all-in on Christmas!

❌ DON’T send 12 “BUY NOW” emails in a row. That’s not a campaign, that’s a hostage situation. Hello, unsubscribe button!

❌ DON’T promise Christmas delivery you can’t guarantee. Check your carrier’s holiday shipping deadlines NOW and build your plan around them.

❌ DON’T discount so deep you lose money. Your busiest days should also be your most profitable days.

The Weird-O-Meter: 🟢 1, Totally Normal

Christmas is the most normal marketing holiday on the planet. Everyone expects it, everyone’s shopping, and nobody will think you’re weird for showing up. The only way to get cringe is to overdo it, so keep it fun, keep it generous, and don’t yell. Jump right in!

The 12 Days of Christmas Promo Plan

Here’s your day-by-day plan for December 13–24, 2026. Each day is a different type of promo, so you can swap, tweak, or skip days to fit your business. Every day gets an email, a social post, and (where it makes sense) a pin.

Day Date Promo Type
1 Dec 13 The Big Kickoff
2 Dec 14 Green Monday Flash Sale
3 Dec 15 The Gift Guide
4 Dec 16 Bundle Day
5 Dec 17 Last Call for Shipping
6 Dec 18 Behind the Scenes
7 Dec 19 The Giveaway
8 Dec 20 Customer Appreciation
9 Dec 21 Freebie Day
10 Dec 22 Social Proof Day
11 Dec 23 Procrastinator’s Paradise (Gift Cards)
12 Dec 24 Thank You + Sneak Peek

🎠Day 1 (Dec 13): The Big Kickoff

On the first day of Christmas, my small business gave to me… an announcement!

Tell everyone the 12 Days are starting and hint at what’s coming. Don’t give it all away; the mystery is the point. Tease things like “a flash sale you won’t want to miss” and “a freebie on Day 9.”

  • Email: “Our 12 Days of Christmas start TODAY!” with a peek at the fun ahead
  • Social: a countdown graphic or a Reel of you opening a box labeled “12”
  • Pro tip: ask people to turn on post notifications or add your email to their contacts so they don’t miss a day

⚡ Day 2 (Dec 14): Green Monday Flash Sale

This is your ONE real discount day, and it lands on one of the biggest online shopping days of the season. Make it a true 24-hour deal so it feels special.

  • Email: send it in the morning, with a “last chance” reminder that evening
  • Social: a countdown sticker in your Instagram stories
  • Pro tip: pick ONE offer (15% off sitewide, a free gift with purchase, or free shipping) and keep it simple

📜 Day 3 (Dec 15): The Gift Guide

Help people shop! Group your products or services by recipient (“for the crafter,” “for the busy mom,” “for the boss”) or by budget (“under $25,” “under $50”).

  • Email: a scrollable gift guide with photos and links
  • Social: a carousel post, one slide per recipient
  • Pin: gift guides are PINTEREST GOLD. Make one pin per category.

🎀 Day 4 (Dec 16): Bundle Day

Pair two or three things together at a slightly better value. Bundles raise your average order AND make gift-giving easier for your customer.

  • Ideas: a “starter kit,” a “gift set,” or a “the whole shebang” package
  • Service businesses: bundle a session with a follow-up, or package three services together

📦 Day 5 (Dec 17): Last Call for Shipping

Five golden rings… ring that bell! If you ship physical products, this is your “order NOW to get it by Christmas” day. (Check your carrier’s actual deadlines, and adjust this day earlier if needed!)

  • Email: a big, bold “LAST CALL” subject line
  • Social: a simple, urgent graphic with the cutoff date
  • Digital sellers and service providers: use this day for a “no shipping needed!” reminder instead

🎬 Day 6 (Dec 18): Behind the Scenes

Show the people behind the business: packing orders, your workspace, your messy holiday desk, the dog “helping.” People buy from PEOPLE, and this day reminds them that you’re a real human, not a big box store.

  • Social: stories and Reels shine here
  • Email: a short, personal note with a few photos

🎉 Day 7 (Dec 19): The Giveaway

Run a quick 48-hour giveaway that grows your email list. The entry requirement: sign up for your newsletter.

  • Prize idea: your bestseller, a bundle, or a gift card
  • Pro tip: announce the winner on Day 12 so people come back for the finale

💠Day 8 (Dec 20): Customer Appreciation

No selling today. Just gratitude! Thank your customers, clients, and community.

  • Ideas: a heartfelt email, handwritten thank-you notes to top customers, a surprise bonus tucked into orders, or a “you made my year” post
  • Service businesses: this is a great day to drop off or mail client gifts

🎠Day 9 (Dec 21): Freebie Day

Give something away for free: a printable, a template, a mini-guide, a coupon for January, or a holiday playlist. It feels generous, gets shared, and brings new people onto your list.

  • Pin: freebies get saved like CRAZY on Pinterest

⭐ Day 10 (Dec 22): Social Proof Day

Let your happy customers do the talking. Share reviews, testimonials, and customer photos.

  • Social: a “what customers are saying” carousel
  • Email: three short testimonials, each with a link to the product

ðŸƒ‍♀️ Day 11 (Dec 23): Procrastinator’s Paradise

Gift cards! Instant downloads! Printable gift certificates! This day is for everyone who just realized Christmas is in TWO DAYS.

  • Email subject line: “Forgot someone? We got you. 🎔
  • Pro tip: make your gift card printable, so it can go in a card or under the tree

🌟 Day 12 (Dec 24): Thank You + Sneak Peek

End with gratitude. Thank everyone for following along, announce your giveaway winner, and tease what’s coming in January.

  • Email: a warm, short Christmas Eve note
  • Pro tip: a January sneak peek keeps people excited to open your emails AFTER the holidays (and gets them ready for next week’s post on after-Christmas marketing!)

🛎️ Service Businesses

(coaches, VAs, photographers, realtors, hairstylists, consultants)

  1. The 12 Days of Tips: send one quick, helpful tip a day by email, with a soft offer at the end. A bookkeeper could do 12 year-end money tips, and a photographer could do 12 tips for better holiday photos.
  2. Client appreciation gifts: anyone who’s worked in real estate knows the magic of a pop-by! Drop off or mail a small gift (cocoa, ornaments, or a printable calendar for the new year) with a thank-you note on Day 8.
  3. Gift certificates and January prebooking: sell gift certificates for your services on Day 11, and offer a little bonus for anyone who books January now.

✅ Do It Today:

  • Make a list of your top 10 clients for appreciation gifts
  • Decide what your gift certificate will look like and how you’ll deliver it

ðŸ›️ E-commerce Shops

(Etsy sellers, online boutiques, makers, digital product shops)

  1. Bundles in festive packaging: create two or three gift sets for Day 4 and wrap them in your palette colors. Pretty packaging = instant gift = less work for your customer.
  2. A shipping countdown banner: add a “Days left to order for Christmas delivery” banner to your shop and update it daily. Urgency without being pushy!
  3. A gift with purchase: instead of discounting, add a small free gift (a sticker, a printable, a mini product) to orders over a certain amount during the 12 Days.

✅ Do It Today:

  • Look up your carriers’ holiday shipping deadlines and write them on your calendar
  • Order your holiday packaging supplies NOW before everything sells out

📱 Content Creators

(bloggers, YouTubers, podcasters, Instagrammers)

  1. A 12-day Reels or stories series: one short video a day with tips, favorite things, or behind the scenes. Batch-film them all in one afternoon in November!
  2. An advent-style freebie drop: release a small freebie each day that requires an email signup. This is HUGE for list growth.
  3. A collab gift guide: team up with other small businesses for a shared gift guide. Everyone shares it, everyone wins. (Affiliate links make this extra merry. 💰)

✅ Do It Today:

  • Brainstorm 12 topics for your daily series and write them in your planner
  • Reach out to 2–3 small businesses about a collab gift guide
