The pilot biffed
It’s entirely possible that Kobe’s aircraft was in the shop for maintenance and so the holding company, Island Express Helicopters, loaned or rented a nearly identical replacement to Kobe and his pilot. According to FAA records, Island Express owned three essentially identical helicopters, same make and model with very close serial numbers. Kobe had his usual aircraft repainted with the black and gold scheme, so the other two aircraft likely have different paint jobds. One of the sister aircraft to N72EX, Kobe’s usual aircraft, is N76EX. Google Images shows it to have the exact same paint job as the crashed aircraft.
My guess is that it was N76EX that crashed, not N72EX. That explains the paint job mismatch.

I think you’ve hit it on the head. As Hsaive points out, above, the paint jobs on N72EX and N76EX are not identical. He found a better image than the one I’d found. It looks like the crashed aircraft is indeed N72EX in its old livery. Which would mean that the gold-on-black livery was temporary — probably a vinyl wrap as you point out.
Putting a black vinyl wrap on an aircraft is a way goofy thing to do. I am a private pilot, and I was also in the sign graphics business for a while, doing wraps. The black livery makes the aircraft difficult to see, bad, and it takes the weight of the wrap, probably 100 pounds or more, off of the useful load. Just plain dumb. That’s probably why the wrap was removed sometime before the crash.
The KMOV4 article at the top claims he was in the black chopper. This was a deception rabbit hole. This is why the media never explains the problem with identity. It appears Kobe pulled off a fake death and Island Express collected on the crash (insurance fraud) Kobe was in legal trouble for rape allegations and Island Express pulled their website down in July 2019.
