Bo Xilai’s Eldest Son Urged to Leave China

Tang Baiqiao, former classmate of Bo Xilai’s eldest son Li Wangzhi, fears for the safety of his old school friend, and recently urged him to leave China during a television interview. 

Tang became concerned after Li Wangzhi’s mother Li Danyu—ex-wife of disgraced politician Bo Xilai—was interviewed by the New York Times. In the interview, Ms. Li said she was worried that her son might be sent to prison or harmed by Gu Kailai, Bo’s current wife.

Ms. Li said she suspected that Gu Kailai encouraged Wang Lijun—Chongqing’s former top cop, who later attempted to defect to the U.S. Consulate—to concoct forensic evidence framing her son with intent to murder.

Tang, now president of the Union of Peace and Democracy, said in an interview with New Tang Dynasty (NTD) Television that he admired Ms. Li’s courage, because there is a strict unwritten rule among the top internal affairs officials that prohibits anyone from speaking publicly about Bo Xilai’s business and personal matters. Ms. Li could now be jailed or even killed, Tang said to the New York-based Chinese broadcaster.

Tang told NTD that Bo Xilai in November 2011 had his son Li Wangzhi captured in Tieling, Liaoning Province, under the guise of “economic crimes.” Apparently the son was later released. Tang believes Bo arranged the temporary detention to threaten Ms. Li.

This was to stop her from releasing unfavorable information about Bo before the 18th National People’s Congress (NPC), Tang opined. 

Tang said that Ms. Li’s “comments could help all of us to recognize the evilness of CCP [Chinese Communist Party] leaders. They can even frame their own son using nasty means to gain power and benefits. People can see clearly the ugly face of these leaders, so she [Ms. Li] must have a lot of courage to disclose this information.”

Tang is now worried that Gu Kailai and Bo Xilai’s supporters may harm Li Wangzhi and his mother in order to silence them.
