Chinese Officials: Okay, Okay, We’ll Quit Organ Harvesting . . . Sort Of

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Under great pressure from countries around the world, the Chinese Communist Party agreed in August to do something about its practice of killing prisoners and taking their organs to use for transplants.

Namely, they agreed to “reduce dependency” on those prisoners’ organs and start using organ donors instead, Reuters news agency reported according to the Epoch Times.  However, they didn’t say how long this would take.

There are thousands of organ transplants in China every year.  However, since most Chinese people believe in keeping the body whole after death, there are hardly any organ donations there.  With a little detective work, the international community realized that the organs had to be coming from prisoners.

The communist regime admitted in 2005 that, yes, they were using organs from death row criminals.  However, more detective work revealed that there weren’t enough death row criminals to account for all the transplants.  Instead, investigators found that most of the organs come from prisoners of conscience, such as Falun Gong practitioners and some Christians (because spiritual beliefs are frowned upon in communism).

China is the only country in the world that gets its organ transplants from prisoners, the Epoch Times explains.

Still, the Chinese regime hasn’t admitted that they kill prisoners of conscience for organs.  They only admit to the death-row criminals.

Which means that, even though they promised to cut back on using death-row criminals, they said nothing about Falun Gong or Christians.  As the Epoch Times pointed out, this probably means they’ll continue harvesting organs from people imprisoned for their beliefs.

The international community, including the United States, is trying to put a stop to this.  If you want to help and you’re in the U.S., you can use this website to encourage your local Congressperson to support the effort: http://www.stoporganharvesting.org/contact-your-representatives
