When Is Lawbreaking Allowed in China?

Under the Chinese communist regime, lawbreaking is apparently allowed when it comes to torturing and detaining Falun Gong practitioners.

“We don’t need to follow the law when dealing with Falun Gong,” said Li Qingguo, director of the Nong’an County Detention Center, according to an article on Minghui.org.

Falun Gong is a peaceful meditation discipline that is severely persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).  This persecution is illegal because there is no law in China against practicing Falun Gong, but the CCP has nonetheless carried it out for over 14 years.

Falun Gong practitioners there seem to have no legal rights.  Many of them are kept in labor camps and prisons, though they have done nothing illegal or immoral.  Lawyers are prevented from representing them.

The Minghui article describes the case of seven Falun Gong practitioners in Nong’an County, Jilin Province, who are being held in detention and have been severely tortured.

Lawyers have attempted to represent them, but officials step in to stop them.

One lawyer visited the Procuratorate this May and asked to review the case of one of the practitioners.

According to the Minghui article, officials told him, “We were instructed by the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) that lawyers are not allowed to get involved with any case related to Falun Gong.”

Another of the lawyers tried to meet with his client.

“Visitation is allowed with anyone except for Falun Gong,” director Li Qingguo informed him.

The lawyer persisted, and finally they summoned Ma Chi, director of the 610 Office (which Minghui describes as “an extralegal agency whose sole purpose is to persecute Falun Gong”) to interfere with the lawyer’s attempts.
