CCP Was Just Kidding About Quitting Organ Harvesting

For the past few years, the official story was that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was planning to gradually stop harvesting organs from prisoners.

Like many official CCP stories, that one turned out to be decidedly fictional. Wang Haibo, a Chinese organ transplant spokesperson, recently told the German broadcaster ARD that there’s no plan in place for stopping organ harvesting, the Epoch Times reported.

Some people might think taking prisoners’ organs means that death row prisoners give their consent for their organs to be taken and used for transplants after they are executed.  In some cases this might be true, but that’s not the main issue that’s causing millions of people around the world to demand that the CCP stop organ harvesting.

What these people really mean by “organ harvesting” is holding prisoners of conscience, such as Falun Gong practitioners and others imprisoned for their beliefs, and killing them on demand to take their organs.

This is where China gets most of its organ transplants, Canadian human rights lawyer and Nobel Peace Prize nominee David Matas said according to the Epoch Times.  Matas has co-authored two books on the subject of organ harvesting in China.

Concerned petitioners and governments in many countries have put pressure on the CCP to quit it, so Chinese officials made vague promises to slowly phase out organ harvesting from prisoners.  However, the authorities publicly gave up on these promises in April, the Epoch Times reported.

This is not good news for prisoners of conscience, Matas told the Epoch Times.

“If the killing of prisoners for organs ended, then the killing of prisoners of conscience for organs would also end,” Matas said according to the Epoch Times. “The fact that the killing of prisoners for organs is now the official policy even of the reform elements of the Chinese transplant system means that the possibility of this shortcut to ending the killing of prisoners of conscience for organs is gone.”

However, that doesn’t mean the rest of the world is giving up.  The Epoch Times has reported on many cases of people and governments trying to help.

For example, the European Parliament and other countries have passed resolutions demanding an end to organ harvesting, and over 1.5 million people signed a petition to the United Nations last year calling for an end to the cruel practice.
