Comedians the CCP Doesn’t Want You to See

If you’re ever in the mood to laugh out loud while learning something new about China, these two unique comedy shows can help you out.

One of them is Off the Great Wall, a New Tang Dynasty Television (NTD TV) show about some of the most entertaining elements of Chinese culture.  Then there’s China Uncensored, another NTD show, which is just what it sounds like—uncensored China news told in the most humorous way.

Anyone who’s interested in China, has ever been to China, has ever wondered what’s going on in China, or has ever heard of China should check out these two YouTube channels without delay.  Each episode is a few minutes long, and I’ve listed several below to get you started.

According to the NTD website, one of the goals of New York-based NTD is to supply news to China and the rest of the world without censorship from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). It talks freely about hot topics the CCP censors, such as the persecution of the spiritual practice Falun Gong.

It may seem impossible to make people laugh by talking about depressing subjects such as the CCP, torture, human rights violations, and filthy air pollution.  But Chris Chappell somehow pulls it off in China Uncensored with his witty commentary on things like the solemnly worshipped mangoes of Chairman Mao, or those highly dangerous activities in China: breathing and drinking.

NTD also seeks to inform people about traditional Chinese culture, which is where Off the Great Wall comes in.  In their episodes, you’ll learn about the funny things Asian parents say, the adorably foolish behavior of guys and girls in love, and the outrageous number of certificates you need to live in China these days.

Some episodes of the shows are about more serious topics, like the CCP’s organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience.  China Uncensored often draws nasty comments from paid CCP supporters on YouTube whose bosses apparently don’t want these things mentioned in public.

As I see it, anything the CCP doesn’t want mentioned in public is something the public ought to know.
