Woman Obsessed with Smartphone Fell Into River in China. Caught on CCTV.

The 28-year-old woman surnamed Wang, a migrant worker and mother of two in Pingyang County, east China’s Zhejiang Province, was gradually walking toward the edge of the river without realizing it, and then fell into the river.
Surveillance footage released online shows the woman struggling for over a minute before she disappeared from the surface of the water and there was no passer-by.
Local police said Wang’s obsession with her smartphone led to her tragedy.
“After watching the surveillance video several times, we identify that Ms. Wang was too obsessed with her smartphone at that time, and then fell into the river,” said Lin Yunxuan, a police officer from Pingyang County Police Station.
Wang’s body was discovered after her husband Yang spotted her shoe floating on the river while he was looking for her the next morning. Her husband said she liked to play with her smartphone all the time.
Lin said he hoped Wang’s tragedy can become a wake-up call for the public that they should be more careful while using phones.
“People who are obsessed with smartphones should raise your head and stop using cellphones while walking and driving in order to protect yourselves and your property,” said Lin.
