Thugs Assault Falun Gong Practitioner in Hong Kong
A Hong Kong woman named Liao Qiulan was attacked by two men in the Lai Chi Kok neighborhood on Sept. 24, according to The Epoch Times.
She had just come out of a police station, where she had had an appointment with the police to apply for a parade on Oct. 1, The Epoch Times reported. Liao is a practitioner of the Chinese spiritual discipline Falun Gong, and she was making arrangements for an annual parade that Falun Gong practitioners hold on that date.
Liao was walking with two other women when the thugs, who wore black cloth on their faces and carried a metal baton-like object, walked past her two friends and attacked Liao, one of the friends told The Epoch Times.
The friend added that the three women tried to fend off the thugs with their bags, but the attackers hit Liao several times with the metal object and then fled.
Liao suffered a head injury and lost a lot of blood. One of her companions stood with her and held a handkerchief to her forehead while waiting for an ambulance to come.
Oct. 1 is the National Day of China, and this year it marks the 70th anniversary of the Chinese communist regime’s takeover of China. Falun Gong practitioners hold the parade on that day every year to raise awareness of how the regime brutally oppresses Falun Gong practitioners in mainland China.
Falun Gong includes five meditative exercises and moral teachings based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. In China, it became widely known for its health benefits in the 1990s.
However, the Chinese Communist Party viewed the practice’s enormous popularity as a potential threat to its power and launched a violent persecution against Falun Gong in 1999.
In Hong Kong, where Falun Gong is practiced freely, practitioners hold parades and other events to raise awareness of how their fellows in mainland China face imprisonment, torture, and even death at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.
A local Falun Gong spokesperson told The Epoch Times that the attack may have been planned by Chinese communist agents in an attempt to silence those who criticize the Chinese regime.
