Uplifting song for Jesus' 2nd coming

At this juncture of time when prophecy is materialising before our very latest media devices, perhaps we shouldn’t be at all surprised that among the reports of doom and gloom we can also find words that inspire us to soldier on to the very end with the assurance that the outcome has already been taken care of.

 A songwriter from England has composed a piece about The second coming of Jesus.

Paul Smith the writer says.

“I wanted to write this from a purely Biblical perspective so I buried myself into the New Testament and tried to find an angle to approach it from. The obvious place to start seemed to be where Jesus departed… His Ascension into Heaven on the Mount of Olives (Mount Olivet).

In Acts 1:11 The angels say, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.’

That was the key for the chorus. It seemed to me that the same angels, would,  at the appointed time,  be calling on men to witness the second coming of Jesus, thus closing the circle of what had been announced two thousand years before. Focussing as much as possible on the words of the Bible I tried to shape the announcement, (a reemphasizing), an almost battle ready, prophetically matter of fact, laying out of  how scripture says Jesus will both reward and punish on his return.

I remember I was working in a warehouse at the time for a vacuum cleaner company and each dinner time I would disappear with my notepad and Bible up into the roof space where the packaging was kept. I would scribble down notes and pray for guidance. After work  I used to get a lift half way home and was dropped off at a bus stop in the middle of nowhere for the second part of the journey. While I was stood at the bus stop looking up at the sky I could feel God’s love and felt how, just the wanting to connect with him can be the start of finding even deeper dignity, purpose and salvation in our life.

Soon after writing it I asked Linda Hinchcliffe, the organist at the local church and she kindly listened to the tape I had sung and she transcribed and arranged it for the piano. She did a great job.”

Paul continues, “Rather like the ‘Onward Christian Soldiers’ song, I thought that if it could, even if by some small measure, create a melody that sounds like a rally to draw the attention of the masses from today’s apparent reality of muddle  to the absolute reality of Jesus’ victorious return, then that must be worthwhile.”

He recalls, ” God’s power is so manifest in his Bible…I remember standing in a room once with the Bible to see if I could give a sermon without preparing and saying,

‘Erm, I don’t know where to start.’ I opened the Bible randomly and looked down to read, Revelation 22:13

‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.’ That has affected me ever since and each day, I realise, can bring a flood of miracles if we have Jesus as our beginning.

In conclusion, Paul says about the song, “I would love to hear this as a rousing, full orchestral-piece with strong vocals.”
