Mariam is Freed Again, But Her Life is Still At Risk!

A Sudanese Christian woman, Mariam Yahya Ibrahim, the wife of an American Christian, is free again. She was facing the death sentence in Sudan for converting to Christianity. After intense international diplomatic pressure Mariam was freed. As Mariam, her husband Wani and two their children were at the Khartoum airport they were detained by the feared Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Services. Now, according to the Associated Press, they are free again.

The Sudanese officials are saying Mariam’s travel documents were forged. In an e-mail to Fox News a spokesman for the Sudanese embassy in Washington, Seif Yasin, said, “Meriam is free to leave Sudan, she just has to do it legally.” Mariam’s supporters are seeking refugee status for her and recognition of U.S. citizenship for the couple’s two children.

“The airport passport police arrested Abrar (Mariam’s Muslim family name) after she presented emergency travel documents issued by the South Sudanese Embassy and carrying an American visa,” the Sudanese National Security Force wrote in a Facebook post. “The Sudanese authorities considered [the action] a criminal violation, and the Foreign Ministry summoned the American and South Sudanese ambassadors.”

The Sudanese government is divided into North and South and it appears Mariam and her family are mere pawns in a much larger political struggle. Because of death threats by Mariam’s family and others it’s imperative that Mariam and her family be allowed to leave Sudan immediately.
