Are Christians Calling for a Modern Day Crusades?

The tragic crisis in the Middle East, where Christians are been singled out and systemically brutalized, is not something that is new or should surprise us. The Muslim capacity for violence is insatiable.

In the early 1900’s, the Muslim church murdered one million Christian Armenians. The idea that Islam’s bloody borders are somehow an antiquated idea is patently false. Ancient history and modern history all agree, Islam advances through violence, including decapitating children, raping and murdering women, kidnapping and enslaving girls, crucifying young men, beheading and displaying heads on pikes, etc, etc…. The depravity and barbarism among the ardent jihadists know no bounds.

This is not limited to the Middle East, it’s wherever Islam feels it has the capacity to successfully attack. In Nigeria, Boko Harram is viciously attacking Christians at will. “Peaceful” Islam is nothing less than a tactic used to acquire power through procreation and infiltration. This is all been thoroughly documented by the strategy memo of the Muslim Brotherhood in America.

Modern Crusades?

According to Muslim logic, if we go over an rescue the Christians being brutalized, we are the modern Crusaders. This is typical Muslim behavior. They provoke violence and then when we respond and they lose, then the Muslims pretend to be the victims.

What’s the Answer?Good theology! Good theology produces good fruit. Unfortunately many in the Middle East and Africa have a deficient doctrine of Christian self-defense and just-war. North Africa, for example, used to be considered “Christendom” but now they are effectively the slaves of Islam. They have been conquered, demoralized and compromised. Islam is exporting their terror and violence wherever people are willing to be subjugated. Unfortunately some people think it’s virtuous to be enslaved. This is bad theology. Christians have every right and duty to defend themselves.

Answers to Objections

“Oh,” say the critics, “but didn’t God, in the Old Testament, command Israel to eradicate the pagan Canaanites.” Yes he did, this is called Holy War and it was for a particular people, Israel, at a particular time and for a particular reason. The sin of the Canaanites had become so gross that God determined to eradicate them. The sin included child sacrifice, burning children in offering to Molech, sexual depravity and perversion on an epic scale because pagan religion was organized around ritual prostitution. These cultures were so far gone that they were justly sentenced to death by a Holy and Righteous God. The Flood is example of God’s just sentence on the entire human race, except one family.

But does the ethic of holy war apply today? The answer is a clear and resounding “No!” Why? Because the particular people, Israel, at the particular time, before Christ, no longer exist as a body politic. That was a very unique set of circumstances that are historically unique. (By the way, Israel never completely followed through on God’s commandment to rid the Holy Land of the pagans. See the book of Judges). Israel’s Old Testament spiritual system ended with the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Holy war is not needed or required by God because now the nations are now to be evangelized, not brutalized.

Good and Bad News

The good news is that when the Gospel is preached and nations are converted, righteousness and justice prevail. The bad news is when Islam shows up with jihad, violence, hatred, and misogyny prevail. The attempt to make a moral equivalency between Christianity and Islam are either disingenuous or willfully ignorant.

Pray for God to intervene and protect the Iraqi Christians and then contact our the White House and the US state department and urge them to do the right thing and demand the Iraqi government protect all religious minorities.
