Russia to recognize rebel Ukraine elections

Russia’s Foreign Minister says that Russia will recognize the results of upcoming separatist elections in Eastern Ukraine.

Kiev had been calling on Russia to dissuade pro-Russian rebels in Donetsk and Lugansk regions from holding their own elections this weekend.

US CDC issues new Ebola guidelines

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has issued fresh guidelines on quarantine for folks who may have been exposed to or cared for Ebola patients.

The new guidelines come as some states impose strict quarantine rules for people travelling from West Africa.

U.S., allies stage 13 attacks on Islamic State targets in Syria, Iraq

U.S. forces staged four air strikes on Islamic State militants in Syria on Tuesday and allies joined in nine strikes on the group in Iraq , the U.S. Central Command said.

In Syria, U.S. attack and fighter aircraft went after targets near the border city of Kobani, destroying a small Islamic State unit and four fighting positions.

Lava flow from Hawaii volcano crawls toward homes

Hawaii officials will make arrangements for those living in the path of a lava flow to watch the destruction of their homes.

That accommodation is being made to “provide for a means of closure,” Hawaii County Civil Defense Director Darryl Oliveira said Monday. “You can only imagine the frustration as well as … despair they’re going through.”

Dozens of residents have been told they might have to evacuate as lava from Kilauea heads toward their homes.

The lava was about 100 yards from a home as of Monday morning.

Nurse could sue over Ebola quarantine

A nurse returning to the United States from West Africa could seek
legal action this week after she was placed in mandatory quarantine.

This would be the first legal challenge made since three US states
enforced a 21-day quarantine period for at-risk travelers coming from
Ebola-stricken nations.
