Institute Pilgrimage to Lourdes and France
The Institute hosted a 12 day pilgrimage to France from April 9-20. Under the spiritual guidance of Canon Benoit Jayr, sixteen pilgrims from eight states visited many of the most significant religious sites. These sites included Nevers (the convent of St. Bernadette), Paray-le-Monial (St. Margaret Mary Alocoque and St. Claude de la Colombiere), Ars (St. Jean Vianney), the church of the Jacobins in Toulouse (St. Thomas Aquinas), Lourdes, Lisieux (St. Therese), Mont St. Michel, the Basilica of Bayeux; and in Paris, Rue de Bac (St. Catherine Laboure, St. Louise de Marillac), the Congregation of the Mission (St. Vincent de Paul), Sacre Coeur, and Notre Dame. Additional sites visited included the US cemetery at Omaha Beach in Normandy, the Palace of Versailles, and Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte near Paris.
While in Lourdes, pilgrims attended two Masses in the Basilica with His Eminence, Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, and the Institutes’ Canons, Oblates, Sisters, and Seminarians. Also, very moving were the Stations of the Cross, the candle-light procession, visits to the grotto of Massabielle, and a presentation by Monsignor Gilles Wach, Prior General.
After the visit to Versailles, the pilgrims assisted at Holy Mass at the St. Francis de Sales House in Marly-le-Roi, in the Diocese of Versailles. The clergy and parishioners then put on a luncheon feast for the American pilgrims.
