The Dumbing Down of the Church

~~We’ve all heard about and many have fallen victim to the dumbing down of America through our educational system failures. It’s astonishing that there are children graduating from high school that can barely read, and we wonder how this could have happened.  Have you ever thought about the dumbing down of the church, especially in the western world? When I say dumbing down in this sense, I refer to a spiritual dumbing down more so than an intellectual one. Two of the ways that the church has been found wanting is in reading the word of God and prayer. The enemy has slyly used these tactics to weaken the body of Christ. 
We live in a society of convenience and ease, and unfortunately it has crept into the church over the years. With conveniences such as T.V., radio, internet, e-books, downloads, e-readers, and the list goes on we’ve become spiritually fat and lazy so to speak. These are all great things when used in conjunction with a disciplined spiritual walk. It’s so much easier to flip on the T.V. preacher than to open the word of God and read for yourself. If you are relying on others to feed you, rather than feeding yourself daily in the word, you will never grow up spiritually. In the natural sense as a child gets older he will take the spoon from mama and begin to feed himself. There’s nothing wrong with following a television ministry but are you reading the word for yourself making sure that you’re not being fed poison? It is not healthy for you to be a spiritual infant forever. The bible warns against this in Hebrews 5:12-14 (KJV). “ For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
