Christian Military Member Discharged for Faith

Another member of the United States military is disciplined for practicing their Christian faith. US Marine, Monifa Sterling, was prosecuted by the Marines for displaying Isaiah 54:17 at her desk. The verse reads “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper…”

Monifa was asked to remove the verse, but refused. The military court found her guilty of disrespecting a superior officer, failing to go to an aoopointed place of duty, and four charges of disobeying the lawful order of a non-commissioned officer. Monifa was discharged from the Marines and demoted from lance corporal to private.

Christians are leaving the military and refraining from joining after growing hostility towards religious freedom. In recent years incidents of anti-Christian discrimination have grown within the military. There have been reports of servicemen being rebuked for having a Bible on their desk, expressing their beliefs in blogs and other forums, distributing Chick-fil-A at a promotion event, and even stories of men being denied promotion because of their beliefs. Recently a chaplain was threatened with discipline after he was accused of failing “to show tolerance and respect” in private counseling sessions in regards to issues pertaining to faith, marriage and sexuality, specifically homosexuality and pre-marital sex. Not only is this bigotry allowed but is becoming condoned by the government.

Throughout America, Christian families are showing concern over allowing their children to join the military because of the increasing hostility.

A military chaplain recruiter, Douglas Lee of Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, recently told The Washington Times that growing hostility within the military to religious freedoms has also made it harder and harder to find chaplains willing to serve our brave servicemen, leaving them without the necessary and important spiritual guidance they need and deserve.
