Through My Bible Yr 1 – August 10
Bible reading based on Job 32-33 (NIV84) 1 So these three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. 2 But Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became very angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God. 3 He was also angry with the three friends, because they had found no way to refute Job, and yet had condemned him. [a]4 Now Elihu had waited before speaking to Job because they were older than he. 5But when he saw that the three men had nothing more to say, his anger was aroused. 6 So Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite said: 7 I thought, ‘Age should speak; 8 But it is the spirit [b] in a man,
9 It is not only the old [c] who are wise, 10 “Therefore I say: Listen to me; 11 I waited while you spoke, 12 I gave you my full attention. 13 Do not say, ‘We have found wisdom;
14 But Job has not marshaled his words against me, 15 “They are dismayed and have no more to say; 16 Must I wait, now that they are silent, 17 I too will have my say; 18 For I am full of words, 19 inside I am like bottled-up wine, 20 I must speak and find relief; 21 I will show partiality to no one, 22 for if I were skilled in flattery, 1 “But now, Job, listen to my words; 2 I am about to open my mouth; 3 My words come from an upright heart; 4 The Spirit of God has made me; 5 Answer me then, if you can; 6 I am just like you before God; 7 No fear of me should alarm you, 8 “But you have said in my hearing— 9 ‘I am pure and without sin; 10 Yet God has found fault with me; 11 He fastens my feet in shackles; 12 “But I tell you, in this you are not right, 13 Why do you complain to him 14 For God does speak—now one way, now another— 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, 16 he may speak in their ears 17 to turn man from wrongdoing 18 to preserve his soul from the pit, [e] 19 Or a man may be chastened on a bed of pain 20 so that his very being finds food repulsive 21 His flesh wastes away to nothing, 22 His soul draws near to the pit, [g] 23 “Yet if there is an angel on his side 24 to be gracious to him and say, 25 then his flesh is renewed like a child’s; 26 He prays to God and finds favor with him, 27 Then he comes to men and says, 28 He redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, [j] 29 “God does all these things to a man— 30 to turn back his soul from the pit, [k] 31 “Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; 32 If you have anything to say, answer me; 33 But if not, then listen to me; Through My Bible – August 10

Elihu
“I am young in years,
and you are old;
that is why I was fearful,
not daring to tell you what I know.
advanced years should teach wisdom.’
the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.
not only the aged who understand what is right.
I too will tell you what I know.
I listened to your reasoning;
while you were searching for words,
But not one of you has proved Job wrong;
none of you has answered his arguments.
let God refute him, not man.’
and I will not answer him with your arguments.
words have failed them.
now that they stand there with no reply?
I too will tell what I know.
and the spirit within me compels me;
like new wineskins ready to burst.
I must open my lips and reply.
nor will I flatter any man;
my Maker would soon take me away.Job 33
pay attention to everything I say.
my words are on the tip of my tongue.
my lips sincerely speak what I know.
the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
prepare yourself and confront me.
I too have been taken from clay.
nor should my hand be heavy upon you.
I heard the very words-
I am clean and free from guilt.
he considers me his enemy.
he keeps close watch on all my paths.’
for God is greater than man.
that he answers none of man’s words [d]?
though man may not perceive it.
when deep sleep falls on men
as they slumber in their beds,
and terrify them with warnings,
and keep him from pride,
his life from perishing by the sword. [f]
with constant distress in his bones,
and his soul loathes the choicest meal.
and his bones, once hidden, now stick out.
and his life to the messengers of death. [h]
as a mediator, one out of a thousand,
to tell a man what is right for him,
‘Spare him from going down to the pit [i] ;
I have found a ransom for him’-
it is restored as in the days of his youth.
he sees God’s face and shouts for joy;
he is restored by God to his righteous state.
‘I sinned, and perverted what was right,
but I did not get what I deserved.
and I will live to enjoy the light.’
twice, even three times-
that the light of life may shine on him.
be silent, and I will speak.
speak up, for I want you to be cleared.
be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”
