Jesus Statue Opens and Closes Eyes in Viral Video

A viral video shows a statue of Jesus opening and closing its eyes at the Chapel of Saltillo in Mexico’s state of Coahuila de Zaragoza.

But is it a miracle or merely a hoax brought to life with clever video editing?

The video shows a life-like statue of Jesus in a glass case surrounded by pillars. As a church-goer videotapes the service, he zooms in on the statue, which seems to open and then close its eyes. Supposedly, a panel of experts and priests could find no signs that someone had tampered with the video.

As of early Thursday, the video had more than 2.2 million views.

Ivan Escamilla, a paranormal expert who posted it on his site, Adimensional, maintains the footage is not altered, according to the Daily Mail.

Critics disagree.

“A 12-year-old could fake this, even using free software,” stated one of the commenters on YouTube.

Maybe so, but it wouldn’t be the first time a modern day ‘miracle’ has surfaced.

Over time, there have been countless crying statues of the Virgin Mary, purported photos of Jesus and Mary, and other ‘miracles.’

If we’re to believe these events, then it would seem safe to say that Jesus especially likes to appear in people’s food. The Son of God has reportedly been found in a potato chip, Cheetos, fried fish (makes sense), a taco, a pancake, ice cream, and toast, to name just a few.

At least one person, a UFO researcher who runs the Australian Phenomena YouTube channel, has already debunked the blinking Jesus statue.
