Good Vs Good

Today we will clarify an seek to understand a message in the KJV Bible that many find contradictory. Let’s look at this scripture:

Joh 10:11  I^G1473 am^G1510 the^G3588good^G2570 shepherd:^G4166 the^G3588 good^G2570 shepherd^G4166 giveth^G5087 his^G846 life^G5590 for^G5228 the^G3588 sheep.^G4263

Luk 18:18  And^G2532 a certain^G5100 ruler^G758 asked^G1905 him,^G846 saying,^G3004Good^G18 Master,^G1320 what^G5101 shall I do^G4160 to inherit^G2816 eternal^G166 life?^G2222

Luk 18:19  And^G1161 Jesus^G2424 said^G2036 unto him,^G846 Why^G5101 callest^G3004 thou me^G3165good?^G18 none^G3762is good,^G18 save^G1508 one,^G1520that is, God.^G2316

Wait a minute – how come Jesus Christ | Yeshua HaMashiach refers to himself as the “good” shepard and then in Luke says “Why callest thou me good? none is good . . . “

Let’s shine light on this misconception. There are two words: good^G2570  and good^G18 :

G18

ἀγαθός

agathos

ag-ath-os’

A primary word; “good” (in any sense, often as noun): – benefit, good (-s, things), well. Compare G2570.

G2570

καλός

kalos

kal-os’

Of uncertain affinity; properly beautiful, but chiefly (figuratively) good (literally or morally), that is, valuable or virtuous (for appearance or use, and thus distinguished from G18, which is properly intrinsic): – X better, fair, good (-ly), honest, meet, well, worthy.

We now see that good G2570 (kalos) is distinguished from good G18 (agathos)

This is a prime example on why we need to utilize the Strongs concordance to explain and support the Word and seek the Lord to understand His perfect Word.
