The Garden

Walking across the garden I notice the grass is wet, becoming unkempt, am autumnal reaction to this most invigorating season, the flowers that embraced so willingly vibrant colour and grace, oh so soon since have shrunk back into the earth, snug from the advancing winter.

The evening wind blows across my frame, my eyes stream with water, I long for the warmth of the inside. And yet I am transfixed by this serene and wonderful scene. I am standing still, looking upwards, towards the heavens.

The sky is a picture, a beautiful vast expanse, seamless, covering all I can see. Tiny silver dots light up the darkening evening skies, clouds glide across as if late for an appointment elsewhere, beyond my limited sight. The light is fading, as the night begins a new shift, mingling colours of blue and grey streak across these skies, and I contemplate on how small I am.

My head bows and for a moment I am held in the palm of the Potters hand; I am held safely, I am at peace, and despite my size in this expansive universe I dwell in, I know I am loved too, and have been loved always.

For my name is known, whispered on a gentle breeze of sound, heard in prayerful moments, and written by the author of all life who shapes all things, and inspires my soul to praise, to thanksgiving, to wonder, awe and worship.

For I know that finite as I am, eternal I will be, and always have been, in the heart of the Father’s love. I am in the garden and my heart rejoices!
