Four Conferences on Carta Caritatis in 2019!

We are proud to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the approbation of the Carta Caritatis (1119-2019) this year. The CC is one of the most famous pieces of monastic legislation ever to be put into practice, and it guided the Cistercian Order through hundreds of years of expansion. It became the model for scores of monastic orders founded afterwards; the Fourth Lateran Council made it into an administrative template for centuries to follow. Scholarship on the CC has been particularly intense in the past 100 years, due to the discovery of major manuscripts. Two conferences in the USA and two in Europe will be held to commemorate this momentous occasion. Save the dates! More information about each conference will be posted as the dates approach.
