For Now

The sure touch of another’s hand, steadying, reassuring, confirming a shared journey upon dusty earth and green grass, of looking towards the heavens, drawing breath from the sheer marvellous experience of the beauty of the journey, and the anticipation of arriving at journeys end, together; a memory for now.

A disjointed dream too, that disturbs the night, bringing restless sleeping and anxious waking, a realisation of what we have been deprived of, a hearty hug, a clink of glass and china cup, a meal consumed with joyful tales of life’s journey, a shared moment of communion; lost to us for now.

Patiently we wait, sat in lonely corners, out in gardens large or small, for some a plant box on a window and a view outwards, leaving a longing for company, for companionship upon the journey, for nights out, and holidays in faraway places, where the sun shines and conversation flows, where even a little rain does not irritate, or dampen the thirst for living, a regret of not fully appreciating what we had; a painful thought for now.

But this is just for now, and though it frustrates and clings, and does its best to break and crush the life we have, and spoil the wonderful journey our shared experience has set out upon, take heart and look upon the best of humanity that has determined that the journey is worth the challenge, and the generous love of the heart is even now, seeking to demonstrate in word and deed, that all of us together, will share the hope, and trudge the path towards a time when we will gather, not just for tomorrow, but even in our current sojourn also give of ourselves; for now!
