Self Isolating Priests!

These days

the deanery in lockdown,

is a zoom meeting,

an online gathering,

a virtual greeting.

So, we are in isolation.

A desert wilderness,

a spiritual desolation.

In that hibernation

I discovered

a few priests already resident…

in fact, quietly, over time,

they have made a home,

hidden from view.

Seen by only a chosen few.

These are priests

who have been,

rarely seen,

self isolating for years.

Sent to a parish

and yet mysteriously he disappears

Meetings are his kryptonite.

Social gatherings,

he keeps out of sight.

A sign of trouble?

When volunteering

to drop out of friendships bubble.

Priesthood is grafting onto Christ,

being formed into his likeness.

But some are never heard of in public,

perhaps they imbued a crippling shyness?

Whatever your stance, and the choice is yours

Perhaps you think other priests to be dreadful bores?

That may be true, and God knows, I have bored quite a few!

but hear it now and hear it loud, we really do love you!

A quirky observation on the diocesan priesthood. A family, with all that it entails!
