The Little Things

The Little Things

It’s the little things,

that count the most,

the evening breeze

felt softly on the skin,

where goose bumps

of enjoyment begin;

in witnessing the sight

of the skies above

parting ways

with the days rapidly

fading light,

a light that is surrendering

to the advancing darkness,

where the sun falls

seemingly

beneath the earth’s floor,

until

greeting

the morning,

the light will awake,

arising, vanquishing

the retreating army of the dark once more.

It’s the little things,

that count the most

a smile,

a flush of recognition,

an anticipation

of idle conversation,

surrendering to friendship,

knowing the security

of shared humanity,

a cup of coffee taken

with a ginger biscuit,

in listening in solitude

to a piece of music

composed in genius,

caressing the prevailing mood,

bringing this day to a most satisfactory conclusion.
