Mercy

Words
whispered
in the aftermath
of treachery,
spoken
resolutely, truthfully.
Lifted up
by the injured,
the perpetrators
of the injury,
lifted
from the dung heap,
that is
our frailty, our broken humanity.
Those words
are spoken still,
carrying us gently
in loving arms,
held securely,
cradled softly,
loved unconditionally.
These words
a remedy,
revealing
the majesty
of eternity,
soothing,
healing,
a life-giving balm.
These words
are tenderness,
the very essence of mercy.
