Με ιδιαίτερη λαμπρότητα τελέστηκε το πρωί της Δευτέρας, 25 Ιανουαρίου 2021, εορτής του Αγίου Γρηγορίου, Αρχιεπισκόπου Κωνσταντινουπόλεως του Θεολόγου, η εις Επίσκοπον χειροτονία του Θεοφιλ. εψηφισμένου Μητροπολίτου Ισπανίας και Πορτογαλίας κ. Βησσαρίωνος.

Της Θείας Λειτουργίας, που τελέστηκε στον Πάνσεπτο Πατριαρχικό Ναό, προεξήρχε ο Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης Βαρθολομαίος, συμπαραστατούμενος από τους Σεβ. Αρχιερείς, Μύρων κ. Χρυσόστομο, Ανθηδώνος κ. Νεκτάριο, Επίτροπο του Παναγίου Τάφου στην Πόλη, Ικονίου κ. Θεόληπτο και Ίμβρου και Τενέδου κ. Κύριλλο.

Πριν από την χειροτονία, ο Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης, στην ομιλία του, εμφανώς συγκινημένος, αναφέρθηκε στην πολυετή διακονία του εψηφισμένου Μητροπολίτου κ. Βησσαρίωνος στην Πατριαρχική Αυλή, απευθύνοντάς του εγκάρδιους λόγους οικοδομής και πατρικές συμβουλές επιστηριγμού της νέας εκκλησιαστικής αποστολής του ως Ποιμενάρχου της Ιβηρικής Χερσονήσου.
