Der Mönch Servais Duriau O.Cist. aus Val-Dieu (1701–1775) wird diese Jahre wieder entdeckt. Er verfasste eine mehr als 30 Bände umfassendes Lexikon für seine wallonische Gemeinschaft. Diese Encyclopaedie beinhaltet kostbare Gravierungen und sagt sehr viel aus über ein intellektuell florierendes Prälatenkloster im Fürstbistum Lüttich der Barockzeit. Duriau gehört nicht zu den bekannten Schriftstellern des Ordens; man hat ihn vergessen. Historiker Jean-Louis Postula bemerkte allerdings, dass das Duriau Kompendium besonders geschickt und pädagogisch konzipiert sei. Es stellt eine außergewöhnliche Masse an Informationen zur Verfügung, die die unterschiedlichsten Themen abdeckt und den Mitgliedern seiner Klostergemeinschaft in der Bibliothek der Abtei von Val-Dieu zur Verfügung gestellt wurde. Die Themen gliedern sich meist in vier Hauptgruppen: Religion, Geschichte, Geographie und Kunst. Die zitierte Literatur aus der Zeit vom 16. bis zum 18. Jahrhundert ist aus Kulturkreisen von Italien bis Frankreich und den Niederlanden bis Deutschland. Die Auswahl unterstreicht den abwechslungsreichen Charakter der Sammlungen. Quantitativ steht die religiöse Ikonographie an erster Stelle: Szenen aus der Heiligen Schrift oder Heiligenviten, Ansichten von Kirchen und Klöstern, Porträts von Geistlichen und Mönchen nehmen einen herausragenden Platz unter den Bildern ein.
