-Devotion and Prayer for the Day: Amos 5

Join us in today’s prayer and devotion-

Read Amos 5 and then join us in prayer:

Our Father,

In your judgments brought upon ancient Israel through the prophet Amos there are many parallels in our own culture which could bring the same judgments upon us.

We now live in a society that is calling what is ‘good,’ represented in your Word the Bible, as ‘evil.’ Those who teach your Word and truth are now spoken against and called ‘haters’ since they continue to speak the truth of your scriptures in a culture  which has departed from the truth and gone its own way following false philosophies.

The ancient Israelis offered up their infants in the false temples of Moloch seeking economic prosperity and we do the same to day with millions of children being aborted and sacrificed in the name of ‘Choice’ and equal rights. An evil represented as good.

The poor have difficulty receiving equality and justice while the rich obtain favor through political contributions which many times is nothing short of bribery.

Even a large number of those who do say that they believe in you and your Son live their lives in this culture like everyone else. So many Christians look forward to the end times but before Jesus comes again, here in Amos you declare that there will be a day of darkness and judgment.

Let us today seek You and your Son Jesus rather than merely carrying on with our religious traditions and ritual worship. The lesson from Amos is that we should seek You Lord and come closer to You and seek your truth rather than PC philosophies of the world supported by the culture.

But before that day of darkness and judgment will be a time when your Word and the ‘Good News’ of your Kingdom will be proclaimed in every nation and to every people and in every tongue with signs following confirming your truth.

Let that great world revival and harvest begin and let this nation see a new awakening and come to a knowledge of the truth like never before. Let this people come closer to you in truth and in deed.

In Jesus name, Amen.

To read the Bible, and particularly the prophets is always a subject of anguish. Did I understand as my soul should have? or did I merely understand as my “stomach” did? Did I understand the word of God? or alas, did I completely misunderstood it and instead was I injected with some trumped-up explanation from the devil, because my miserable soul is already blinded by sin? and therefore incapable to “see” the face of God?
I read Amos 5 (from the Douay-Rheims), as you, dear “Answers For The Faith (Reporter)” suggested. I read it very quickly, at break-neck speed, which is my preferred method of reading some sacred scriptures, as opposed to slow reading, à la Protestant “Bible Study”. I won’t go into the subject of “Protestant Bible Study” on this comment, for the simple reason that each time I came from one of those “Wednesday evening session” I felt like slowly rolling into the ditch as a result of “super slow reading” to the point of being totaly disoriented.

So! I read Amos 5 as I’d drive by Beamer hardened ride suspension, 3 liters inline 6 supercharged series 5 at full tilt on ice & snow on a mountain road with a bottomless pit on my left, and a rocky cliff, ready to crush with falling rock on my right! At the end of this special run, this is the impression: Amos 5 might have been for some ancient time, from which we know nothing about, but it is also for us NOW! Our Lord tells us to pray in our own heart, and to forgo the institutionalized ones…

        - – - let’s finish this comment – - –

… it is also for us NOW! Our Lord tells us to pray in our own heart, and to forgo the institutionalized ones who “robbed the poor”. And at last, that the final captivity “beyond Damascus” might be bottomless, since Saul, at that time headed for hell, became converted in a supernatural way on the road to Damascus, and stopped short before “Damascus” which figuratively was the Gate of Hell. Saul, as then Saint Paul the Apostle, was saved before going beyond Damascus. Saul, one of the most brilliant disciple of Gamaliel the scribe, along with St. Stephen, Martyr, and St. Barnabas were in no way lukewarm. both were “loners” with men, but they walked with God and were filled with the Holy Spirit. Amos 5, truly speaks for us, and he speaks to us NOW, as to our own conduct.

Thank you dear brother “Answers For The Faith (Reporter)” for the tip!
