Churches tell you that you need works with your faith to be saved like Church of christ when Roman’s 11:6 says salvation cannot be by God’s Grace and Man’s self-righteous works. Galatians 5:4 you have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by the law, YOU HAVE FALLEN FROM GRACE. Roman’s 4:14 For if they which are of the law be heirs , FAITH IS MADE VOID, AND THE PROMISE IS MADE NONE OF EFFECT.
I dont think dispensationalism quite means what you’re describing here. Most churches are dispensationalist today but that was in response to the industrial revolution. As science and technology began to explode believing in miracles started to fade.
IE, if the disciples believed Jesus because he did miracles, and more people believed the apostles because they did miracles… where are the miracles today?
Dispensationalism is an attempt to “keep the church relevant” in a time where religion would be questioned if the people preaching the doctrine couldnt produce some of the miracles talked about in their book.
There are some missionaries who insist miracles are still happening today, so they pretty much disregard dispensationalism. Also many pastors who believe they’ve seen miracles quietly oppose the doctrine even if their church constitution mentions it.
But at no point is the old testament, or Jesus’s words discounted because it was “under another dispensation” as described in the video.
When the Old Testament is discounted (and it is), it is because we are under a new Covenant. This is literally from the words of Jesus, when he claimed to be the fulfillment of the Old Covenant and his own crucifixion the foundation of a new covenant.
Being under a new covenant is a biblical doctrine, whether or not you agree with the specifics of how that’s interpreted. The idea that we dont have miracles anymore because that dispensation is over is not biblical and never was.
The Bible is the final authority for doctrine and practice. Dispensationalism is a school of theology which merely tries to bring out what the Bible actually teaches as we are guided by the holy Spirit. It is not dependent on John Nelson Darby or any other human teacher.
I’m a dispensationalist who believes that miracles still happen today. True, many dispensationalists are what are called “cessationists.” These believe that the miracles or “sign gifts” of the holy Spirit ended with the death of the apostles. But many anti-dispensationalists, such as “covenant theologians,” are also cessationists. So there is no real reason for tying cessationism to dispensationalism, other than mere human tradition which assumes that it’s a necessary part of the theology. And that is false.
I agree with the excellent book “Dispensationalism,” by Dr. Charles C. Ryrie (which I highly recommend to everyone who wants to know what dispensationalists really believe, and not just what they’ve been told). At the same time I’m convinced the New Testament teaches that all the gifts of the holy Spirit in Mark 16:15-18 and 1st Corinthians 12-14 are still operative today and will continue throughout this dispensation until Christ returns.
