The Secret Hidden in Three Words: "It Is Finished" (KJV)

Many read the Bible but miss one of the most liberating truths it offers—tucked into three short words in the King James Version that can change everything about how we live, worship, and relate to God.

“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
— John 19:30 (KJV)

These are not just the final words of Jesus before His death. They are the eternal declaration that the work of salvation—your salvation—is complete.

“It Is Finished” — What Does That Mean?

In the original Greek, the phrase is “Tetelestai.” This word was used in legal and commercial settings to mean “Paid in full.” When Jesus uttered it, He wasn’t merely giving up His spirit—He was declaring victory.

He wasn’t defeated—He was fulfilling.
He wasn’t dying in vain—He was canceling the record of sin that was against you (Colossians 2:14).

The Secret the Religious World Often Misses

So many churches, pastors, and traditions teach that you still have to do something more—obey more laws, perform more rituals, pay more tithes, prove more worth—to be saved.

But Jesus didn’t say:

• “It has begun”
• “Now go finish it”
• “You’re on your own from here”

He said: “It is finished.”
There’s nothing left to add to the work of salvation. The debt is paid. The sacrifice is complete. The door to eternal life is open.

Rest for the Soul

Jesus invites us to rest in this finished work.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

When we truly understand “It is finished,” the burden lifts.
We no longer strive to earn God’s love—we simply receive it.
We no longer fear losing salvation—we walk in the joy of assurance.
We no longer live by guilt—we live by grace.

From Works to Worship

This truth doesn’t lead us to laziness. It leads us to love.

• We serve not to be saved, but because we are.
• We give not out of fear, but from joy.
• We obey not to earn favor, but to walk with the One who gave everything for us.

Final Thought

The King James Bible doesn’t hide this truth—it proclaims it. But it takes eyes to see and hearts to believe:

“It is finished.”
Not by your works. Not by your worthiness.
By His grace alone.
