Gospel John 12:24-26
If a grain of wheat falls on the ground and dies, it yields a rich harvest
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I tell you, most solemnly,
unless a wheat grain falls on the ground and dies,
it remains only a single grain;
but if it dies,
it yields a rich harvest.
Anyone who loves his life loses it;
anyone who hates his life in this world
will keep it for the eternal life.
If a man serves me, he must follow me,
wherever I am, my servant will be there too.
If anyone serves me, my Father will honour him.’

Eucharist: Blessed and Broken
The bruised grain of wheat revealed upon the cruel cross
Head bowed in surrender to the enduring love of the Father
Gathering the whole of humanity, its frailty, agony, its loss
Today, still gazing upon the host lifted from each sacred altar
Christ planted in the bleak ground pointing towards heaven
Death entered the realms of the precious Lord of all life
Blood, water, flowed from his pierced side, sanctity’s leaven
The Eucharist, yielding a rich harvest, addressing broken strife
Closing grateful eyes in awe at the mystery broken before us
Serving compassionately a commandment to love one another
Beholding the majesty, the fruit of loves endeavours, a canvas
Love ignited in the yearning heart of each sister and brother.
