Get your gladiators out to the stadium, get the crowds so worked up they can’t think straight, blood and gore, wars and entertainment.  War on Terrorist, throw the Pentagon and all the Money it takes to bankrupt the countries, but the propaganda machine will make it worth the publics apathy.  Gladiators and Sports, throw money around like it means nothing anymore, but like the terrorist, the Yankee’s or Red Sox or Dodgers or Cardinals MUST be stopped, no matter how much it costs.

Get real folks, Koufax and Drysdale CONDUCTED a dual “strike” against the Dodgers in 1966 and settled for $125,000 and $110,000 respectfully for a ONE YEAR contract.  Both Cy Young winners and Hall of Famers.

Albert Puljos, while contemplating his OPTIONS between St. Louis and Miami, will make more than them combined a little over 6 innings of his SECOND game.  Yeah, he’ll make over $133,000 per game for 10 years if he plays or not, or over $27,000 per at bat, if he bats or not (based on 5 AB’s per game).

In less than 24 hours he was offered from 9 years $195 MILLION dollars to 10 years $220 MILLION dollars, an increase of $5 MILLION buck-a-roos, more than Mantle, Mays, Drysdale, Koufax, Aaron, Ruth, Gehrig, Killebrew, Williams, Kaline, Ford combined to make in their lifetime.  Not bad, eh.  Times have changed, you bet.  Back when all those players played, most people could afford to go see them, now they can’t. 

Doesn’t seem now that millions are talked about like thousands used to?

As reported recently, the average American has not seen a net increase in spendable or discretionary income since 1971, just a few years after many of those above Super-Stars retired, so don’t give me that it is all reletive, it’s not even close.  We also spend more on a bomb now than most people made in a year then or now.

As reported in CBSSports.com the other day, a last place finisher in 6 PGA tour events that have no cut could have made nearly $400,000 bucks.  Could of shot a 100 and still get almost $8,000 an hour plus first class perks to tour around the best golf courses in the world, courses that some of us have to pay a couple hundred bucks a round if we could get on or afford it.

I’m a sports fanatic, true blue and all of that, but…I am also an American who with the rest of us is what, $15 Trillion in debt, and giving our future generations a ball and chain to carry that we helped put there by letting the 1% dictate nearly all we do, including our entertainment?

With Albert’s and Matt Kemp’s and the Alex Rodriquez’s, Tiger, Sir James, etc  bloated salaries you are buying into either not ever going to take your family to a game without mortgaging the house you may still have, or not going but still having to pay $10 for a tube of toothpaste because that’s what it takes to pay those guys those many zero’s with a whole number before them.

Doesn’t seem like Billions are talked about how Millions used to be?

Better do some “gut checking” or “wallet burning” if you think we can keep this leveraged money going out faster than you and I can throw it at them. 

Like the Occupy theme goes, we have to “Occupy” our beloved sports teams and demand that we won’t allow them to steal our hard earned livings just to watch them “play” a game.  $5 Million bucks in 24 hrs. was the raised stakes, who do you think will end up paying for that?  Your COST of living just went up!   Bombs and Bats, they are costing a fortune, and all the 1% can tell you is that THEY need it AND we’ll fork it over without a whimper.

Doesn’t sound like Trillions are talked about how Billions used to be?

There still are places on the planet that a $1 buys something, and this is paradise you CAN afford.
