A very short explanation of religion.
1. Mythology survives because it hitches its wagon onto truth to give it credence. Early man reverenced/feared nature which makes sense.
2. Later men invented god names for all forms of nature ok that was cool.
3. Later men invented humanistic wants and needs for these gods and started throwing people into volcanoes, fantasy time.
4. Then man/cities/cults invented personal gods for specific reasons like war and created great stories about the gods, mythological invention.
5. Then men became gods themselves, invented the afterlife and ruled with the gods for power and control. They started sacrificing animals and people, inventing religious theocracy.
6. Then man created jealous gods and war between the gods broke out fractionalizing early religion into specific secular beliefs.
7. Then the religious began to organize the stories, the Egyptian book of the Dead and the Torah the most notable.  
8. Then the books became the foundational point of each religion. From the Torah came the plagiarized Christian Bible, that broke into a New Testament book and unification religion with a new man/god called Christ.
9. Then the Qur’an was plagiarized from the Christian Bible starting another religion and holy war.
10. Today we have over 5000 religions and countless God’s for every reason and purpose, man gods, devils, angles and the list goes on and on all fighting, killing and praying for dominance.
11. Children are indoctrinated with fantasy belief that turns into adult mythological religious fantasy. The biggest difference between Santa and God is that people will not kill you if you don’t believe in Santa.

 People can see the folly in others religions and cults but can’t see it in their own. Phylogenetic delusional illness now rules the day. Religion has carried man galaxies away from reality. The reason man can argue over what is real is because he no longer knows real.
