Is @EllenPage a @TedCruz Campaign Plant or is She Really Bad at Helping Her Cause?

Few would doubt that actress Ellen Page is liberal… until today. It would seem that she’s either a closet conservative trying to bolster Senator Ted Cruz as he tries to win the GOP nomination for President or she’s simply not as good at debating her philosophical views as she is at acting. Granted, she’s an exceptional, often underrated actress, but her actions at the Iowa State Fair today did nothing but help Cruz win support.

There were even rumors that she’s helping him in order to defeat Donald Trump who would be a more difficult candidate for the Democrats to defeat, though that is definitely debatable as well. Regardless of what her reasons were, the gay actress and LGBT rights activist made Cruz look perfect as the far right-wing evangelical Christian candidate that he wants to be. Even while holding a pork chop debating the actress (whom he appeared to not recognize), his views were clear while Page’s were disjointed and often muddled.

It’s reminiscent of the selfish rant by Dixie Chick Natalie Maines against President George W. Bush that hurt her career and helped Bush win a second term as President. It was damaging to her own cause, giving further flames for the right to fan. It hurt the case against the Iraq war and it proved to be a rallying point for supporting the President. Page’s rant is similar in that it did nothing to help her promote LGBT rights and will become another item worthy of fixation for the press.

The problem with many liberals (and I’m about as liberal as they come) is that they really want to point to their plight rather than look at the big picture. Her self-centered focus on an issue that affects her, LGBT rights, paints all of her other perspectives as irrelevant. Cruz deftly switched the conversation to homosexuals being murdered in Iran, to which Page pointed towards homosexual persecution in Jamaica.

Yes, Jamaica.

If celebrity liberals would focus on fundraising for candidates and leave the issues to those of us who care about more than one self-centered issue at a time, they could help the cause. Celebrities like Page are the reason that politicians like Ted Cruz can win.
