Assault Weapons For Schools Approved...Now Who Is The Threat???

The purchase of Bushnell automatic rifles by Douglas County School district in Colorado has served the purpose of ramping up the discussions about gun control in the public as well as political arena.

It certainly highlights the problem of the militarizing of our police and now escalating to school security!  As a parent of a student that survived an  attack at school “We will never forget!” However that does not imply that any of us would support school security arming themselves with assault weapons.

“We’ve got to keep our schools safe and we’ve got to keep our staff safe and community safe, but in my opinion that’s the role of law enforcement, it’s not the role of a public school district.” said school board member Wendy Vogel. 

Well said!

The security officers at the high school are trusted by students. Students feel comfortable approaching them and discussing concerns. Students are the FIRST to know when something or someone is not “right”! It is certainly not the school administration!

After the shooting, some students drove me home. They told me who had committed the attack and told me to keep it in confidence. 

The media did not know the names at the time,but I did, because those students were right! 

                                          WHAT ARE THEY REALLY DOING?

This action will generate distrust between the parents of students and the school board. The arrogance by which this has been implemented, with no public input, is repulsive, sending out a clear message that “They know better and can do whatever they want!”

In addition this action will have a chilling effect on student/security officer relations. When one party has an automatic weapon it is rather intimidating. 

Exactly how effective are these weapons going to be when they are to be left locked in the security officers cars? When something happens, it happens fast! Also how secure are these guns, in the unoccupied cars?

Our children should not be used as Pawns in the high stake games where political parties and anti gun activists want to repeal the right to bear arms and those that want those rights maintained as guaranteed in the Constitution!  

Coincidence?  What perfect timing to now have the “Gun Control Agenda” become an issue for the Presidential candidates. This is a very divisive issue with such a wide range of opinions. This one issue alone may be deciding factor on which candidate wins!

Then there is the timing of the lawsuit filed by the victims’ families from Sandy Hook against the gun manufacturer.

The question is “whether or not the riflemaker can be held responsible for the Sandy Hook massacre because of how it has marketed a military-style weapon to civilians.”

The  argument is based on “The Bushmaster Defendants attract buyers by extolling the militaristic and assaultive qualities of their AR-15 rifles.

The Complaint” alleges that the weapon is suitable for the military and for law enforcement- where it is used in combat. In civilian hands, the high caliber, rapid fire rifles are essentially killing machines.”

SCHOOL SECURITY IS NOT MILITARY AND IS NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT. THEY ARE FOR SCHOOL SECURITY!!!
