The Great Maunder Hoax

The Great Maunder Minimum – a period where sunspots were unusually low has been used to predict an impending ice age. The problem you run into when trying to prove a theory with another theory you still have to prove the original theory for any new theories to even garner minor consideration from scientists.

As the video below clearly explains, volcanism is the single leading causative factor in sudden cooling events. And indeed when looking at the great Minimum we see not high volcanism but extremely high volcanism. Will this give rise to an ice age? Possibly, yes.

And even though the Maunder period was marked with intermittent harsh winters the oceans remained navigable, no new glaciers had formed and all the things that you identify with a true ice age simply could not have existed. Mainly because even the North Sea remained navigable in the summers during the Maunder Minimum.

The answers could probably be best answered today because sun spots were not even detected in the last 3 to 4 weeks on the Sun. That’s right, zero sun spots. So while Maunder defines low sun spots as we speak today defines NO sun spots. And indeed when looking at total solar radiation the Sun currently is having a hard time staying below what used to be our solar average of 1,161 watts / m².

The question that is really begging to be asked is do low sun spots affect volcanism? If so, why did we have such a large increase in volcanism during this last solar maximum? Another question is if low sun spots caused volcanic eruptions why were the last 2 largest eruptions on earth involve volcanoes that erupted during solar maximums?

It doesn’t take a mathematician to figure out that if the sun spots are at the absolute lowest then to should be solar radiation.
