For many years the eminent astrophysicist Carl Sagan was one of the most vocal people out there in the “debunking” of various UFO / Alien theories.  Strangely while simultaneously debunking Sagan did support the SETI program and many times spoke of the idea of alien societies existing, in fact, he devoted time to this idea in his legendary television show “Cosmos,” even while he dismissed the idea of visitation of the earth by alien cultures.

Two prime examples of Sagan’s purported thoughts of alien visitation can be found in his handwritten notes for the book A Pale Blue Dot:

In these handwritten notes, Sagan clearly promotes the idea that most all UFO Sightings are fakes or due to psychological issues and in the case of abductions be dismisses them as a largely American cultural phenomenon.  Both these notes are very consistent with his historical writings and lectures on the subject, but the new book “The Sagan Conspiracy: NASA’s Untold Plot to Suppress The People’s Scientist’s Theory of Ancient Aliens” by Donald Zygutis purports to expose a NASA program to suppress Sagan’s real views on the subject.
