America's Favorite Drive: Blue Ridge Parkway

Aren’t weekend getaways the best? Especially when the getaway includes a scenic drive…

It’s only taken me a month to post this, but better late than never! Over Labor Day weekend we made our way to Roanoke, VA only so that we could drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, also know as “America’s Favorite Drive”.

Our stay in Roanoke was nothing to write home about, it’s just a cute little city with a surprisingly quiet downtown, but the drive to get there was pretty amazing. I guess it was one of those “it’s the journey, not the destination, that matters most” trips. Blue Ridge Parkway has a lot going for it – panoramic mountain views, rolling green fields dotted with hay bales, and rustic barns. If you’re not into all that then this isn’t the drive for you. We happen to love that stuff, so it was a perfect drive for us.

I suspect the absolute best time to make this drive is in October once the leaves have turned and everything is all golden, red and orange.We were a little ahead of that and I would love to make the drive again here in a few weeks.

So, “America’s Favorite Drive” was pretty darn good. Definitely on my list of favorites and one we hope to do again soon.
