Bisquick Chicken and Dumplings Recipe

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

When Bisquick was first introduced into store shelves in 1931, it was mostly used for baking biscuits. Sold by General Mills, the manufacturers mention that the discovery of Bisquick happened over a chance meeting of one of their sales executives with a train dining car chef.

The sales executive who was on a business trip created Bisquick as soon as he returned from his trip. This biscuit pre-mix quickly became a crowd favorite and was soon used for preparing a range of food delicacies like pizza dough, pancakes, dumplings, and cookies.

Today’s recipe will use the Bisquick pre-mix for creating delicious dumplings. For the soup, I have used chicken along with frozen peas and carrots. But you can add mix veggies and create a more colorful soup too. I like my chicken and dumplings with fewer veggies and more dumplings.

The soup can also be seasoned with paprika for an added flavor. This may kill the simple taste of the cream of chicken soup, but it suits taste buds which lean towards spicy foods.

Your chicken and dumplings will ideally be ready in 30 minutes, which makes it a perfect dinner time recipe, especially when you want to whip up something quickly. The whole recipe is very easy and does not deal with lots of chopping and cutting either.

Bisquick Chicken and Dumplings

  • Author: Bobby
Ingredients

For the soup:

  • 1 ½ cups of milk
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 1 cup cooked chicken, chopped
  • 1 can condensed cream of chicken soup (10 ½ oz.)

For the dumplings:

  • 1 1/3 cup Bisquick mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup milk

Instructions
  1. Heat a saucepan and pour milk to prepare the soup.
  2. Add the vegetables and chicken along with the cream of chicken soup.
  3. Stir in regular intervals and allow the soup to come to a boil. Once boiled, simmer the heat while you prepare the dumplings mixture.
  4. In a bowl, whisk the egg and add the milk for the dumplings.
  5. Add the Bisquick mix and fold till it is just mixed. Avoid over-mixing so that your dumplings don’t fall apart in the soup.
  6. Gently spoon the dumpling mix into the simmering soup. Cook on simmer for 10 minutes without covering the saucepan.
  7. Now cover and cook for another 10 minutes
  8. Check if the dumplings are done by taking out one dumpling and cutting it into half. Cook for another 5 minutes if the dumplings are not properly done.
