Super Easy Cajun Fries
A few years ago I made garlic Parmesan fries, shared them on Pinterest, and immediately got a comment from someone who scoffed at them. “Frozen French fries? Gourmet? Pffft” I might have added the pfft part, but the point was taken: Karen obviously did not approve of my frozen French fry hack.
And I was wounded for a hot minute, but then got over it because doctoring up frozen fries is one of my favorite easy snacks. Who has time to cut their own potatoes and deep fry them only to be disappointed in the result after so much work? And who says you can’t make something that feels fancy from ingredients some might perceive as un-fancy? Well, Karen obviously disagrees but the rest of us? We get to have Cajun French Fries.
THREE INGREDIENTS & THREE STEPS
I like to use the thin-cut style, but feel free to use your favorite French fry. Crinkle cut, steak fries, curly ones… there are many choices.
You’ll also need some olive oil and Cajun seasoning. You might need some salt, too, but it depends on how salty yours are out of the package and how much salt is in your Cajun seasoning. I recommend waiting to add extra salt until after they are done. You can do a taste test first and then add extra if they need it.
French Fries
- 20 ounces thin-style frozen French fries
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- Kosher salt, optional
Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- Juice of one small lemon
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
INSTRUCTIONS
-
Preheat the oven following the instructions on the French fries package.
- Place the fries in a large bowl. Add the olive oil and toss the fries in it to evenly coat them. Sprinkle half of the seasoning over the top and toss the fries to coat. Add the rest of the seasoning and toss again.
- Bake the fries according to package instructions. While they’re baking combine all of the ingredients for the dipping sauce in a small bowl.
- Once the fries are done, sprinkle them with salt if desired. Serve with the sauce on the side.
