What is the Knockout Game?
A violent new trend among youths known as “the knockout game“, “bombing”, “point ‘em out, knock ‘em out”, or “polar-bearing” is growing quickly in popularity.
This “game” involves choosing an unsuspecting bystander at random, then attempting to knock him or her out with a sucker punch — and of course, recording the attack and posting it to the internet.
Several deaths in the past few months have attracted heavy media coverage, which has in turn made the game even more popular, even including attacks on bicyclists.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
As there’s not much you can do to fight an attack you never see coming, the very best prevention is to be aware of your surroundings.
Don’t be afraid to judge a book by its cover!
Almost all knockout game attacks so far have been committed by people in their 20′s or younger, especially teenagers.
- See a group of teens messing around and looking suspicious, or sizing you up? Don’t be afraid to keep an eye on them.
- Think someone might be following you? Follow a car driving by. When it passes, turn and look at it. This will allow you to see who’s behind you and how many there are.
- Turn and knock on a random door. Anyone following you will move on, knowing you’re in the presence of friends.
- An attacker won’t target you if you’re not easy prey. Make it obvious that you know what’s up.

Years ago, while wandering through a square in Mexico city, I became aware of several pickpocketeers following me–I would stop, they would stop I would walk they would walk. I pretended that I was just looking around at the sights and so would they. It became a game kind of dangerously exciting. I toyed with them.
Their strategy was to get closer and closer behind and stop when I stopped. I suppose when they were close enough they would grab my bag or slash it with a razor or something. When one of them was really close, I turned abruptly and walked right at him as if I had forgotten something and needed to go back. He was totally thrown-off balance instead of me–then I would stop again as he and his buddies were bewildered. As soon as they started following, repeat. Finally they started to laugh as they realized I owned them. I guess they were jovial pickpockets.
I am certainly not suggesting that you do this with more violent predators whose psychotic game is to kill or would you, no, if I were to pay with the animals, it would be deadly for them.
What I am saying is as the video says–be aware of your surroundings everywhere. No room for nonchalance in this sociopaths generation. Be aware always be prepared be ready be fearless.
Act crazy and start using curse words in a super loud voice like you have turrets syndrome and act all shaky and flipped out … People automatically leave you alone … Even the thugs … They will say ” dang that dude crazy ”

Has anyone noticed that this type of activity is never reported (not saying that it does occur because I do not know) in predominantly Native, Asian, White or Hispanic communities? I guess in places where anyone/everyone is likely to be armed, these young thugs are not quite so brave….
I agree , why is this crime never reported? i read mosty of the papers and i have yet to actually see an article. If anyone does this they deserve to be shot.
First and foremost avoid areas where these animals live. Secondly if you have no choice, go armed and aware. Select a weapon which you are skilled and confident with. If the answer to that is you don’t have one, then learn the skills and get one.
I’m a big guy and I figure a can of mace is all I need to give me the upper hand in most any situation. Unless of course it turns into a fire fight.
I don’t always pack a gun, unless I have to go into an inner city. But I keep a collapsible Baton in my truck at all times.
The best advice is avoidance.
I live in a pretty darn safe place , but I understand many of you don’t.
People sure want the Knockout Game to be real how pathetic!
