Nanny Left Newborn and Toddler in Sweltering Car to Go Tanning

A nanny in Oregon has been arrested after she left a three-year-old boy and two-month-old girl in a hot car to visit a tanning salon. Temperatures exceeded 90 degrees when Kristen Marie Jones abandoned the children who were left in her care. A concerned citizen called the police after she passed the car and saw the two children covered in sweat and crying.

The 23-year-old nanny was coming out of Sunblaze Tanning Salon, located in the 14800 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard, just as Officer Rian Hamby was able to get the first child out of the sweltering vehicle. Initially she told police the children’s mother had been in the car when she went into the tanning salon but later confessed to abandoning the children.

Officer Hamby said when he arrived the vehicle was locked and the windows were closed. He looked inside of the Dodge Caravan and saw both children screaming and saturated in sweat. The officer opened the door … click HERE to continue reading
