ATF Boston Field Division and Vermont Law Enforcement Offer $15,000 Reward in Stowe Fires

BOSTON – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Boston Field Division Special Agent in Charge Kelly D. Brady announced Friday, Sept. 25, that a combined reward of $15,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who set fire to various buildings in Stowe, Vermont, between 2016 and the present time.

The Town of Stowe has experienced more than a dozen fires that were deemed intentionally set. Four fires that were determined to be arson have occurred since June of 2020, with the most recent fire at Stowe Cablevision. While to date, there have been no injuries or fatalities, intentionally set fires pose a serious danger to the community, public safety and its first responders. The community has also sustained significant amounts of property damage in excess of $4,000,000 as a result of these fires over the past years.

The combined reward funding is comprised of equal funding by ATF, the Stowe Police Department and the Vermont Arson Tip Award Program (VATAP). The reward funding is for information, which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.

Investigators from the Stowe Police Department, Stowe Fire Department, Vermont State Police, the Vermont State Fire Marshal’s Office and the ATF Burlington Field Office have been assigned to the investigation. Anyone with information about the arson is encouraged to call the VATAP Line at 1-800-32-ARSON or 1-800- 322-7766; the Stowe Police Department at 802-253-7126; or ATF’s toll-free, 24-hour hotline at 1-888-ATF-FIRE (1-888-283-3473).

ATF is the federal law enforcement agency with jurisdiction for investigating fires and explosions. More information about ATF and its programs can be found at www.atf.gov and by following ATF on Twitter at @ATFBoston and @ATFHQ.
