Stocking Hanger Board

This is our second Christmas season in our new home. Last year when I realized we had nowhere to hang stockings, I planned to make something over the summer. Obviously I didn’t get a head start on my stocking board project but I finally put it all together last week.

I went to Home Depot and purchased a 72″ long piece of wood. This would be a fun project to use an old door or other scrap wood but poor planning forced me to actually go out and purchase something instead. I originally was planning on using stain to add some color to the board but decided at the last minute to use red acrylic that was sitting on a shelf in my office.

I used my Cricut to cut letters while the paint was drying. I’m embarrassed to admit this but I’ll be honest…I used Avery shipping label paper for the letters. I forgot that I had used all my white vinyl and didn’t want to wait until the next morning to finish the project. The label paper has a sticky back so it was very easy to apply to the board.

I used a yard stick as a guide while applying the letters.

One good coat of Mod Podge sealed the paint and letters.

I used drawer pulls for the actual stocking hangers. I had a hard time making a decision with the drawer pulls at Home Depot because they had such a large selection. I ended up just purchasing a pack of 5 from Wal-Mart instead of buying them individually at Home Depot. If you have something specific in mind the hardware store is definitely a good option but for me, I was just looking for something cute and inexpensive.

I carefully measured and marked where I wanted each stocking hanger on the back of the board. Then I drilled holes for the screws.

The screws go into the back of the board and then the drawer pulls attach on the front side.

The last step is attaching a wall hanger.

We finally have a place for our stockings!
